The $1 million gift from the Larry and Judy Reiners will support construction of the athletics and recreation facility, which is set to open in early 2018.
The school is awaiting final approval of the project from the Angola Plan Commission, which could come next month.
Larry Reiners, a gas and chemical processing industry veteran, graduated from Trine, previously known as Tri-State College, in 1965. He joined Trine’s board of trustees in 2009 and currently serves on the executive committee. He says "as the beneficiary of a Trine University education, it gives me great pleasure to support Trine as it expands its offerings to its students and to the community. We look forward to the addition of the MTI Center to Trine’s main campus, and the benefits it will offer to generations of Trine students to come."
A residence hall on the Steuben County campus bears the couple’s names.
The donation is associated with the Invest in Excellence campaign, which aims to raise $125 million. The university announced last month it has raised the bar on the campaign’s original $75 million figure. Trine has raised more than $83 million already.
