The Lown Institute, a nonpartisan health care think tank, has named Methodist Hospitals in Gary and Lutheran Downtown Hospital in Fort Wayne to its list of the 50 Most Racially Inclusive Hospitals.
The ranking is based on the 2023 Lown Institute Hospitals Index for Social Responsibility which weighs 53 metrics under the umbrella of equity, value and outcomes. The index studies nearly 4,000 hospitals across the country.
The Lown Institute’s final list includes Gary’s Methodist as No. 9 nationally and Fort Wayne’s Lutheran as No. 38.
“We are gratified that our efforts to bring cost-efficient and high-value care to our diverse community with an equally diverse staff have been recognized by the Lown Institute,” Methodist Hospitals President and CEO Matt Doyle said in a news release.
The top three hospitals on the list are Boston Medical Center Corp., John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital in Chicago, and UChicago Medicine.
