Crossroads Galvanizing LLC will invest about $18 million to build the plant, which is expected to create up to 60 jobs in its first year of operation.
The company says the plant will cover 50,000 square feet initially, but will be capable of expanding up to 100,000 square feet if needed. Crossroads has already broken ground on the facility and construction is expected to be complete in the first quarter of 2018.
"For us, the choice to locate a plant in Lafayette was an easy one," said Jason Monnig, manager of Crossroads Galvanizing. "From the outset, we noticed a strong workforce and a ‘can-do’ attitude from City and County officials. Simply put, it reminds us of home."
Crossroads says the new plant will allow the company to service businesses throughout the Midwest, including Lafayette-based Wabash National Corp. (NYSE: WNC). Monnig adds it was the company’s relationship with Wabash National which helped shape the decision to locate in Lafayette.
The company expects to hire 50 to 60 new employees in the first year, with "potential for further growth in the future," according to Monnig.
