The company, which owns several produce and specialty food distributors, has acquired Tennessee-based Valley Produce Inc., though financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
FreshEdge says the acquisition will strengthen its presence in eastern Tennessee and enable continued expansion into the southeastern part of the country.
Valley Produce distributes fresh produce and specialty products to food service customers out of its facility near Knoxville. As part of the deal, Mark Stansberry will continue to serve as president of Valley with operations continuing from Knoxville.
“By joining FreshEdge, Valley will expand its selection of specialty items and add fresh cut processed products such as fresh salads, sandwiches, and healthy snack items – while continuing to provide exceptional customer service to our current and future customers,” Stansberry said in a news release. “We look forward to this new era of opportunity and growth for Valley.”
The company says with the Valley acquisition, it now employs more than 1,400 people and operates some 600,000 square feet of warehouse space.
FreshEdge was established in 2019 after Indianapolis-based IF&P Foods acquired Get Fresh Produce in Illinois. The company’s portfolio also includes Piazza Produce, Indianapolis Fruit, and Cibus Fresh Foods, among others.
