Franklin Announces Plans For Amphitheater

The county established a funding mechanism for tourism marketing in 2015.

The city of Franklin is planning to spend around $1.75 million to help relocate several businesses and revitalize flood-damaged space to build an amphitheater and expand a nearby park. According to the Daily Journal, the city has already agreed to spend $850,000 to buy and relocate Graham’s Wrecker Service and Generations Collision Services.

Land south of the Johnson County Courthouse near Province Park along Young’s Creek has been purchased by the city. The 14 acres will be developed into a greenspace that would host events and possibly the city’s farmer’s market.

The businesses that are in that area will relocate next year with construction on the amphitheater and park slated to begin next summer.

The cost to taxpayers is estimated so far at $1.75 million. The estimates to tear down buildings, prepare the ground, build streets and construct the amphitheater and restrooms have not yet been determined.
