Franciscan Munster to Build Cancer Center

The three-story, 83,500 square-foot facility will be a combination cancer center and medical office building. Attached to the hospital building, it will include radiation oncology treatment, medical oncology-infusion therapy, a full-service breast center, four state-of-the-art endoscopy suites, a pharmacy, physician suits and a waiting area with a capacity for 50 people.
Sister Aline Shultz, chief operating officer for Franciscan Health Munster, says the center will be one-of-a-kind in the area.
"There isn’t another cancer treatment center in Northwest Indiana that will have the capabilities this will have," said Shultz. "A lot of people go to Chicago for the kinds of services we are going to offer. We hope to keep them in Northwest Indiana. We will be offering university-scale cancer treatment here."
Franciscan Health Munster recently completed a two-year, $70 million construction project. The work included a new 24-hour emergency department, 24 patient rooms, a gift shop, chapel and cafeteria-dining room.
