The project had raised $9,200 from 122 donors as of Friday.
If the Fountain Fletcher District Association raises the remaining amount by 6 p.m. July 1, the Indiana Housing & Community Development Authority will double its goal as part of the CreatINg Places program, meaning the organization would have at least $35,000 at its disposal if successful.
According to the crowdfunding page, the plaza has held several community events like a summer concert series and pop-up artists that faltered during the pandemic. Through an upgrade funding by the campaign, the district wants to bring more people to the gathering area nd create a low-barrier way for artists to showcase their work.
“The Plaza holds so much potential for community building and showcasing our creative talent in Fountain Fletcher,” said Laura Giffel, Fountain Fletcher District manager. “With these additional items, we will be able to activate this space year-round and provide quality community programming that was difficult in the past.”
The CreatINg Places program provides up to $50,000 in grant matches to nonprofits and local governments pursuing projects costing at least $10,000.
Since 2016, the IHCDA said projects through the program have raised over $8.2 million in public funds with $6.8 million matched by the agency.
