Fort Wayne GM Plant to Halt Production Again

(NYSE: GM) Fort Wayne Assembly plant is set to temporarily pause production for the third time this year. Our partners at WPTA-TV report the worsening global shortage of computer chips will cause production to halt beginning Monday.
The automaker says the production is currently scheduled to resume the week of September 13. Production at GM’s Silao Assembly plant in Mexico will also be halted during that time.
“During the downtime, we will repair and ship unfinished vehicles from many impacted plants, including Fort Wayne and Silao, to dealers to help meet the strong customer demand for our products,” GM says. “Although the situation remains complex and very fluid, we remain confident in our team’s ability to continue finding creative solutions to minimize the impact on our highest-demand and capacity-constrained vehicles.”
The Fort Wayne plant produces the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 pickup trucks. Additional GM plants in Missouri, Canada, Mexico, Michigan and Tennessee will also see production shutdowns, some of which could last up to three weeks.
