The university fired McCarty in January 2020 for alleged sexually inappropriate behavior. In April of 2021 a former UE student filed a lawsuit against the school claiming McCarty sexually assaulted her shortly before he was fired. That lawsuit is still pending, according to WEHT.
McCarty says the school fired him because it could not afford to pay performance bonuses.
In a statement from the university, UE said the coach was fired for “violating the terms of his contract and engaging in behavior contrary to the core values of our University. The University fulfilled its contractual obligations to Mr. McCarty and is confident the outcome of any legal proceedings will confirm the University’s position.”
