Jim Eifert, who served as the school’s vice president for academic affairs and dean of faculty for more than 16 years and was the founding president of Rose-Hulman Ventures, passed away Sunday.
“Visionary leadership may best describe Jim,” said Rose-Hulman President Robert Coons in a news release issued by the school. “Jim’s entrepreneurial spirit is spread throughout our curriculum and, I believe, Rose becoming the nation’s recognized leader in undergraduate science, engineering and mathematics education is due in large part to Jim’s significant efforts.”
In 1999, Eifert was instrumental in the creation of Rose-Hulman Ventures, the school’s “innovation space,” an engineering consulting enterprise that has worked with more than 200 companies, designing and developing products and services.
Eifert also served as president of the Indiana Venture Center from 2007 to 2009 and since early 2009 had been a managing partner with Innoventure Associates.
