The former Indiana 7th District Congressman has been a member of his alma mater’s board for 10 years. Pease is now a consultant with Rolls-Royce North America after serving as senior vice president. The transition, ISU says, will allow Pease to move to Terre Haute full-time and return from Washington D.C.
Pease has been vice chair of the board for the last three years. His time as president will cover the 2018-2019 term. Pease was a U.S. Representative in Washington from 1997-2001, ISU vice president for university advancement from 1992-1996 and was an Indiana State Senator from 1980-1992.
Pease says "clearly the university has shown tremendous success, and building on that success is important to me and to the board. It was in the forefront of our minds during the presidential search and is clearly on our minds as we prepare for the academic year. As long as I’ve been a member of the board, there has been a collaborative vision for what the university should be, not just among the members of the board, but across the campus, and I will continue our tradition of shared governance and collaborative leadership. It has served us well."
He will lead the board for the first time this week and is joined in leadership with Vice Chair Jeff Taylor, Secretary Kathleen Cabello and Assistant Secretary Kim Oliphant Smith. Last May, Pease was selected to co-lead the transition team following the retirement of longtime ISU President Dan Bradley and subsequent hiring of current President Deborah Curtis.
