ArcticRx developed the pod, which is slightly larger than a dishwasher, in collaboration with thermal engineers from Rolls-Royce in Indianapolis. Co-founder Stuart Lowry says the pod can hold vaccines at ultra-low temperatures for up to 28 days.
Operating out of the Indiana IoT Lab in Fishers, ArcticRx said one of its units has been shipped off to FedEx for testing, and plans are being finalized for more field tests.
In a January interview with Inside INdiana Business, Lowry said the testing will provide proof of effectiveness for potential clients and their needs.
“What we found is everyone is very excited about what we have, but they want to prove it out for their specific product,” Lowry said. “So that’s the next stage is saying, ‘OK, now we have it, let’s get your product, let’s send it where you want to send it so we can showcase its capabilities.’”
ArcticRx is a nominee for Tech Innovation of the Year at the Mira Awards, which will be presented later this month.
The Indiana Economic Development Corp. named ArcticRx its Innovative Small Business of the Year in 2023. The company also won the 2021 Crossroads Pitch Competition hosted by Bloomington-based business incubator The Mill.
