In notices to the state, the company says it has laid off a total of nearly 40 employees from its Commercial Services and Security Products businesses.
The company says the layoffs are due to “restrictions or effects on travel and permissible business operations” stemming from the pandemic. The layoffs are expected to be permanent.
Specifically, 24 employees are being let go from FireKing Commercial Services with 15 workers from FireKing Security Products being laid off.
While the company says it decided to “substantially reduce” its operations, it is unclear whether production is being suspended completely due to the pandemic.
In 2016, FireKing announced plans to invest $4 million to establish a new distribution center and create 50 jobs over five years. The company did not specify what types of jobs were affected by the layoffs.
