Heartland Film Inc., which presents the event, says Indy Shorts only features films 40 minutes or less in length. "Short film filmmakers bring an incredible art form that presents what can be done creatively in a few minutes,” said Craig Prater, Heartland Film president. "Heartland Film is proud to be on the cutting edge of filmmaking and inspiring filmmakers to continue their careers.”
While the films themselves may be short, the list of titles is long. Prater says this is the largest short film festival in the Midwest with over 100 films shown.
Indy Shorts is an Academy Award-qualifying film festival in several short film categories. Prater says several short films shown here in past years have gone on to be nominated and win an Oscar. One such film is “Period. End of Sentence.” It was a finalist in last year’s Indy Shorts Int’l Film Festival and went on to win the 2019 Academy Award for Best Documentary Short.
Indy Shorts will award $30,000 in cash prizes across multiple categories to winning films. For more information on Indy Shorts, click here.
