FedEx Plans New Facility, Jobs in Indy
The Indianapolis hub opened more than 25 years ago and employs thousands of Hoosiers.

(NYSE: FDX) is again looking to grow its presence near the Indianapolis International Airport. The company plans to invest $9 million to lease and equip a large portion of a newly-constructed speculative building in the AmeriPlex Indianapolis industrial park, which will be a new location for its FedEx Supply Chain Inc. division. According to documents filed with the city, FedEx has committed to adding 225 full-time jobs at the facility by 2021.
FedEx Supply Chain specializes in third-party supply chain management for business customers, including reverse logistics processes, transportation, warehousing and distribution. The new location would occupy about half of the leasable space within the 630,000-square-foot building. The company plans to install new logistics equipment, including racking, pallet moving equipment, safety and security equipment, and boom lifts.
The new jobs are expected to have an average wage of just over $16 per hour. The company says it expects many permanent part-time and temporary seasonal jobs could also be created, similar to other FedEx facilities in Indy.
FedEx also operates a 2.4 million-square-foot hub at the airport, as well as a 328,000-square-foot SmartPost facility at the AmeriPlex park. The new jobs are would not have a negative impact on current employment at the other facilities, according to the documents.
FedEx is requesting a five-year tax abatement for the project, which would save the company more than $352,000 over the course of the abatement period. The abatement request still requires approval by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Development Commission.
