The U.S. Department of Transportation has officially signed a $75 million Small Starts Grant agreement for IndyGo’s Red Line transit project. With the funding in place, IndyGo says construction on the first phase of the route will begin within the next 45 days.

The first phase runs from Broad Ripple Village on the north side of Indianapolis through downtown and ends at the University of Indianapolis on the south side of the city. The 13.1-mile stretch will feature 27 new stations and 13 new 60-foot articulated electric buses.

Senator Joe Donnelly (D-IN), who has helped IndyGo through the application process, says the project will "improve Indianapolis’ infrastructure and public transportation for residents, while also promoting continued economic growth."
