John Nichols will hand over leadership to his sons Jacob and Scott Nichols to lead the company day-to-day. John, who was at the helm for over 20 years and doubled the size of the business, will become executive chairman.
“Now is the time for the next generation to assume a more involved role in our day-to-day operations so that we continue to grow and adapt to best serve the trucking industry,” John said in a news release, “I look forward to providing continued guidance and mentorship.”
The privately-held, Indianapolis-based company operates in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio and employs over 700 people, 454 of which are Hoosiers.
Scott will serve as CEO, while Jacob will be the chief human resources officer and co-president. They are the grandsons of founder Eldon Palmer.
“It is an honor and privilege I take with great humility to lead our organization, and I look forward to what the future holds with an open mind,” Scott said. “My grandfather and father have been a tremendous inspiration, and I hope to follow in their footsteps by treating all with honesty, dignity and respect.”
