The not-for-profit’s Educational Experiences Fund will support programming and infrastructure to educate the community about the Falls of the Ohio State Park’s natural, cultural and historical significance, the foundation said.
The gift means that about a thousand students each year will be ensured access to the park’s Interpretive Center and educational programs.
Patty Cress, the donor, said she fell in love with the park after her late husband, Hugh, took her there about 50 years ago. She said she wanted to connect more people with the park through hands-on programming.
“After Hugh passed away, I wanted to do something that would have an impact while helping children learn about this place,” Cress said in a news release. “My hope is that others in our community will see our story and love of this place and join us in supporting the Foundation’s mission and these educational experiences.”
The gift comes about two weeks after the foundation cut the ribbon on a new outdoor classroom at the park designed for visitors and school groups looking to learn more about the Falls’ history.
