Explore Evansville CEO to step down at end of year

Tourism and marketing agency Explore Evansville will see a change in leadership. The organization announced Thursday that President and CEO Alexis Berggren is stepping down.
Berggren is taking a new role in Charlotte, North Carolina. Before her time with Explore Evansville, Berggren worked with the Evansville-Vanderburgh County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau Board of Commissioners.
In a news release, Berggren credited Explore Evansville with attracting over 350,000 visitors to the region and generation more than $69 million in economic activity in the past three years. The organization highlighted riverboats coming back to the shores of Evansville, a 100-acre expansion to the city’s sports complex and the region capitalizing on the total eclipse.
“We are grateful for Alexis’ visionary leadership and the impact she has made on our community,” said Ali Hashemy, Chair of the Board at Explore Evansville, in a release. “She has laid a strong foundation for continued growth, and we are confident that the organization will continue to build on the momentum she has helped create.”
The organization says Beggren will stay on with Explore Evansville through December. In a written statement Berggren said she’s proud of the work she and her team accomplished.
“After seven and a half fulfilling years of service to Evansville, I am excited for the next chapter and confident in the future of Explore Evansville,” said Berggren. “I am incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished, and I know the organization will continue to thrive and make a meaningful impact on the community. I am so grateful to the board, staff, and many partners for their unwavering support.”
In addition to marketing and promoting Evansville and the southern Indiana region, Explore Evansville operates the Evansville Sports Complex.
The organization did not specify its plans to find Berggren’s successor.
