His new company, Propel, will focus on helping tech companies accelerate their junior software development employees into productive members of their teams.
Birch says he is leaving Eleven Fifty on great terms and wanted to start Propel because a lot of companies are missing a program that allows up-and-coming talent to grow into a higher level of productivity. He says Propel will design "custom mentorship programs that will enable existing teams to keep progressing on their initiatives, but also allow the company to grow their next round of developers."
Birch, along with entrepreneur Scott Jones, launched Eleven Fifty Academy in January. The academy offers an immersion training program to teach Web and App development. Since launching, Eleven Fifty has served over 500 students and plans to serve more than 2,000 next year.
Eleven Fifty also offers a program, Eleven Fifty Consulting, for businesses looking to partner and for select students to serve as apprentices. Birch says 30 apprentices and seven startups were also produced since Eleven Fifty’s initial launch.
