Elanco says Athian aims to help cattle farmers and ranchers capture and claim carbon credits.
Elanco says the startup will create a software platform designed to help producers understand their carbon footprint and how to validate their greenhouse gas reductions in order to monetize their sustainability efforts by creating a carbon credit marketplace.
“We are pleased to partner with Elanco and other thought leaders in the livestock production value chain as we launch Athian to certify, aggregate and monetize carbon credits,” Paul Myer, chief executive officer of Athian, said in a news release. “Our partnership enables farmers and ranchers to fund sustainability projects that will enable the industry to reach their Net Zero emissions targets.”
Elliott Parker, CEO of High Alpha Innovation, tells our partners at the Indianapolis Business Journal Athian has been about a year in the making and was launched and funded in just the last few weeks.
According to the IBJ, Athian is based in Indianapolis, though Myer is based out of California. However, High Alpha Innovation plans to recruit additional employees from throughout the country.
High Alpha Innovation was spun out of the High Alpha venture studio in 2020 with the goal of helping corporations increase innovation through the venture studio model.
