The nearly $19 million project, which has received local and federal funding, is expected to be complete in June 2019.
The city says the bridge, also known as the 8th Street bridge, will be closed during the day Thursday as contractors work to shift traffic from the old bridge to the new one. Once the bridge has been reopened, eastbound traffic will continue to use it, while westbound traffic will continue to use the detour on the Main Street bridge.
Once the traffic shift is complete, the city says crews will begin the process of removing the old bridge.
