Sutton-Garten Co. says the investment included the installation of the world’s first 50-ton Chart Chillzilla tank, which cools liquid CO2.
Sutton-Garten says the tank has the ability to both increase dry ice yields and reduce dry ice production costs by nearly 40 percent. The company says the Chillzilla system lowers the temperature of the liquid CO2 before it is transferred to a machine to turn it into dry ice pellets, resulting in a higher yield.
The company also installed a new pelletizer as part of the upgrade project. Sutton-Garten is the only dry ice manufacturer in Indiana and says its production capacity has grown to 60 tons of dry ice pellets per day.
