The South Bend Tribune reports the startup recently held a demonstration in the St. Joseph County town of Lakeville.
The drone delivered a burrito from a local restaurant to an American Legion Hall a half mile away. The owners of Leo’s Family Restaurant have made an investment in the mailbox aspect of DRONEDEK.
“We started offering (delivery after the pandemic) but were having a lot of issues because of employees,” said Jamie Dominguez. “I was thinking in the future, we were going to use drones but didn’t know how far into the future and then I saw this was happening and that’s how I got interested.”
Earlier this month, DRONEDEK conducted a demonstration in the city of Lawrence to deliver an order of hot wings to firefighters.
The system includes technology for drones to deliver items, and not just food, to a secure mailbox. It would also allow the service to interface with delivery drivers.
