Our partners at WTHI-TV report the Vigo County Capital Improvement Board has found a site near 8th Street and Wabash Avenue for the project. An initial site with Indiana State University was previously considered but fell through.
The board will now receive two appraisals for land needed for the new convention center. The remainder of the needed land is being donated by Greg Gibson. The station reports a hotel will also be built on site, with negotiations underway with Dora Brothers Hotels. The Capital Improvement Board would need to ask the city to vacate 8th Street between Wabash and Cherry Streets for the project.
