Downtown Fort Wayne Action Plan Finalized

Subscribe NowThe city of Fort Wayne’s Community Development Division has finalized the Downtown Fort Wayne Action Plan created by urban design firm, Gehl. The plan outlines possible projects that would connect public spaces and increase tourism to downtown.
The Public Realm Action Plan highlights areas that are already well-utilized, such as alleys filled with murals and Barr Street when the public market is open. It also outlines areas that could be improved to attract more visitors.
Next steps include the City’s Community Development Division establishing an implementation team and setting up partnerships to begin work on the projects detailed in the Action Plan. The city intends to secure partnerships and begin testing ideas this summer.
“This action plan provides ideas for building on our momentum and creating a vibrant, active and exciting downtown for all residents to enjoy,” said Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry in a news release. The plan was funded by Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne/Knight Foundation, the Fort Wayne Redevelopment Commission and the Community Development Division. Staffing was provided by the Planning & Policy Department.
