The Techstars SportsTech Accelerator Powered by Indy is expected to attract interest from hundreds of entrepreneurs around the globe. But technology entrepreneur Scott Dorsey says that may be just the start. "I’m even hopeful over time it’ll lead to creating a template and collaboration perhaps for ag tech and logistics tech and other forms of technology going forward," said Dorsey.
Dorsey joined Indiana Sports Corp. President Ryan Vaughn to talk about the potential impact of the accelerator on this weekend’s edition of Inside INdiana Business with Gerry Dick.
The first-of-its-kind accelerator is the result of a partnership among the Indiana Sports Corp., NCAA, Pacers Sports and Entertainment, Indianapolis Colts and Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Colorado-based Techstars, a group Dorsey calls "the gold standard" of tech accelerators, will operate the three-year program, which will be housed at the 16 Tech development near downtown Indianapolis.
The accelerator will select 10 companies from throughout the world each year to come to Indianapolis for a three-month program to push development of technology that will meet sports sector needs, including fan engagement, safety and merchandising.
The 2019 Indianapolis 500 will serve as the kick-off event for the accelerator program.
