The company, which manufactures doors for residential and commercial applications, said in a notice to the state it will lay off more than 30% of the workforce at its facility in the town of Walkerton.
Masonite says the move is the result of “changing business needs in the region.”
The company says between 74 and 84 workers will be affected by the layoffs. However, all employees will continued to be employed at the Walkerton facility through at least Nov. 27.
“As our business needs change, we are adapting our operations to meet those needs,” a spokesperson for Masonite said in an email to Inside INdiana Business. “As we have communicated to our employees, we will be reducing the employee base in our Walkerton plant due to the elimination of the third shift in that location.”
The layoffs are expected to be permanent, and the affected workers are not represented by a union.
