Subscribe NowThe TechPoint Foundation for Youth says 167 teams at last weekend’s State Robotics Championship qualified for the VEX Robotics World Championship in Dallas. However, the foundation is seeking help in raising funds to cover registration and travel costs to send the teams to the event.
The world championship is scheduled for April 25-May 4. The foundation said Thursday that gives teams a very short amount of time to come up with the $1,200 registration fee, as well as travel accommodations to get to the event and transportation and lodging costs once they get there.
The foundation has received requests for more than $20,000 to support the Indiana teams, but has yet to reach $1,000 in donations.
“We had an unprecedented number of students quality for the world championship, which we were excited about, but because our mission is to provide access to robotics to underserved students, a trip to Dallas can be an obstacle,” TPF4Y President and CEO George Giltner said in a statement to IIB. “We want to ensure everyone has equal access. These students shouldn’t be punished because of financial barriers.”

Giltner said the number of teams that qualified for the world championship is a result of the success of Indiana’s robotics programs. The Hoosier State is sending the most teams of any other state to the event.
The world championship will have 40 countries represented.
