Financial details were not disclosed, but DexKo said the Canadian company will become part of its Elkhart-based subsidiary, Dexter.
Cerka manufactures trailer axles and distributes trailer components to dealers and original equipment manufacturers across Canada.
“Adding the Cerka team to the Dexter organization will further support our distribution network for the trailer dealers and OEM customers in Canada,” Dexter CEO Adam Dexter said in a news release. “This strategic partnership supports our dedication to building an extensive network supplying high-quality products to the Canadian marketplace.”
DexKo Global CEO Fred Bentley called the acquisition a “seamless and meaningful addition to our portfolio. Cerka lead shareholder Leigh-Ann Morris, whose father, Peter Cerka, started the company in 1976, said DexKo has been a trusted supplier for many years.
A spokesperson for Dexter said the company does not expect any jobs to be negatively affected by the acquisition. It is also not clear if Cerka will continue under its own brand name post-acquisition.
“Our plans will be to begin integrating the two companies, focusing on providing exceptional service to our combined customers,” the spokesperson said. “As the integration efforts proceed, decisions concerning branding will be evaluated and communicated.”
Dexter employs more than 3,800 people at over 20 manufacturing facilities and 50 specialty distribution locations throughout the U.S. and Canada.
