Francis W. Parker School, from Indianapolis Public Schools, was honored as a National Title I Distinguished School for Exceptional Student Performance for a Title I school. Valley Grove, from the Anderson Community School Corporation, was honored as a National Title I Distinguished School for Closing the Achievement Gap.
“As Superintendent, I see great teaching and learning happening across the Hoosier state,” said Glenda Ritz, Indiana’s Superintendent of Public Instruction. “Today it is my honor to recognize the exceptional work of two Hoosier schools. I applaud the students and educators at Francis W Parker School and Valley Grove Elementary. I know that they will continue to serve their communities, and our state, very well.”
The IDOE reviewed Title I school-wide performance data for the last three years to determine which schools would be eligible for the award. To qualify, schools must show either exceptional student performance for two or more consecutive years or closing the achievement gap between student groups.
Both schools will be invited to present at the next Indiana Title I Conference and to attend and be recognized at the National Title I Conference in Houston, Texas next year.
