DePauw University Receives $1M STEM Grant

Subscribe NowDePauw University is one of 33 schools in the nation to receive a 2018 grant from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute Inclusive Excellence Program. The five year, $1M grant will be used to help underserved STEM students.
Program director of the grant, Jacqueline Roberts, says this is the next chapter in STEM instruction at DePauw. "Our HHMI work is built on collaborative relationships present on our small liberal arts campus, but is grounded in an intentional and sustained shift toward listening to and learning from marginalized students about the barriers to and opportunities for excellence."
The funding will allow DePauw STEM departments to conduct self-studies and for faculty to develop inclusion training for themselves and peer mentors. The grants are highly sought after, with 594 schools submitting applications. A total of 57 grants have been awarded over a two year period.
