Niespodziany comes to Greencastle from Wabash College in Crawfordsville, where he worked for six years and most recently served as associate head baseball coach.
“Throughout the search process, Jordan distinguished himself as a humble leader, with tremendous passion for DePauw and the DePauw experience,” DePauw’s Associate Vice President for Student Wellness Stevie Baker-Watson said. “His baseball acumen is high and his ability to connect with student-athletes, on the field and off, was impressive to our student-athletes, alumni and University employees.”
The 2013 DePauw graduate started his career at his alma mater as assistant director of athletics communications and volunteered as an assistant baseball coach for the Tigers. He continued as the Tigers’ pitching coach until June 2018.
“I am extremely excited to return to DePauw and lead the baseball program,” Niespodziany said. “I want to thank Stevie Baker-Watson and the members of the search committee for the opportunity to guide the program moving forward. DePauw has had a lasting impact on my life and I look forward to continuing to build the program on and off the field.”
In his senior year, Niespodziany earned honorable mention all-North Coast Athletic Conference after posting a 4-2 record with a 3.32 earned run average, doubling as a team best record. Injuries kept him off the field in his second and third years.
The South Bend native also served as a camp counselor and coach at the University of Notre Dame Baseball Camp and previously served as a summer coach for the South Bend Sultans.
The new head coach has a bachelor degree in computer science from DePauw and a master of recreation and sport management degree from Indiana State
The appointment comes after former head coach, Blake Allen, stepped down last month to accept an assistant coaching position at Indiana University after eight seasons with the Tigers.
