The designation, according to the state, shows a community has “taken steps to reduce barriers to broadband infrastructure investment.”
The IBO said this week the designation followed the Decatur County Commissioners’ adoption of an ordinance highlighting efforts to promote private investment in broadband infrastructure.
“This is a key step on the path toward improving the existing networks and extending them to cover our county,” Rick Nobbe, head of the Decatur County Broadband Task Force, said in a news release. “It makes us more competitive in the eyes of the providers, and we look forward to working with them to build out the community.”
County Commissioner Mark Koors said he hopes the designation shows potential grant funders that the county is prepared to partner on broadband projects.
Decatur County is the 77th community in Indiana to receive the Broadband Ready designation.
