Officials cut the ribbon this week on the Deaconess Clinic Downtown.
In addition to Deaconess physicians and staff, the facility will also house IU School of Medicine-Evansville, the Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute, and the Research Institute of Deaconess Clinic.
“The downtown medical campus is a growing destination for people from across the region, seeking medical education, primary and specialty care, research opportunities, and the opportunity to participate in clinical trials,” said Shawn McCoy, chief executive officer, Deaconess.
Because of the nearly 9,000-square-feet of clinical research space, the project received a $9 million grant from the Regional Cities Initiative.
“As a state, we’re committed to sustaining the momentum created by the Regional Cities Initiative, encouraging regional development and investing in transformative projects that enhance the connectivity, livability and culture of our communities,” said Indiana Secretary of Commerce Jim Schellinger.
Deaconess will open an express clinic later this year on the first floor.
Local eyecare provider, The Vision Care Center, will be leasing space in the building.
Patients and employees will have access to covered parking in the adjacent parking garage, located on Locust Street, which is connected to the new building via an enclosed pedestrian bridge.
