The 23-acre logistics and manufacturing hub will include an expansion-ready shell building and railroad cross-dock to speed up rail and truck loading.
In all, the Daviess County Economic Development Corp. says around 500 acres are available for development near the project.
Congressman Larry Bucshon agrees the road has become a catalyst, saying "it is gratifying to see communities like Washington strive to maximize this advantage for the benefit of the region."
Terre Haute-based Garmong Construction Services Inc. is leading the shell building development. It is expected to draw interest from transportation, logistics and distribution companies that could expand or locate in Washington. The facility will connect to the nearby CSX rail line. Governor Mike Pence calls the project a "ready-made place to operate, grow and hire Hoosiers."
Companies already invested heavily in the area include Iowa-based Kent Corp. and its Grain Processing Corp. subsidiary, which recently announced a more than $70 million expansion at its Daviess County facility, and Alliance Barrier Films LLC, which has added dozens of workers and invested millions into its own growth in its home city.
