The new health clinic is located in the Ameriplex office park at 5715 Decatur Blvd. The federal Health Resources and Services Administration estimated the southwest portion of the city has 14,000 residents who are underserved.
New patients are being accepted for wellness exams, well-child visits, immunizations, sports physicals, psychiatric medication management and evaluation specialist referrals. Eight employees, including, a physician assistant, registered nurses and a behavioral health team, will staff the location. It accepts private insurance, Medicaid, Medicare and Managed Medicare.
Damar leaders said in a news release they are well-positioned to expand their services to underserved populations since it has specialized in compassionate care for children and adults with autism and other behavioral and developmental disabilities. Though they specialize in such care, the clinic is open to all.
“As we worked to find resources to provide healthcare services to our clients, we saw a need for greater access for all area residents. Not seeing another resource, we decided to create one ourselves,” Damar President and CEO Dr. Jim Dalton said in the release. “Quality health services should be available and accessible to all, regardless of an individual’s circumstance or ability to pay.”
The Decatur clinic has been owned by the company for some time and has previously been operated as a pharmacy, said Jenny Peters-Reece, Damar chief strategy officer. The company is looking to invest in the property for the clinic’s expansion.
Damar also has a 83-acre main campus in Indianapolis, several ABA autism clinics in Avon and Indianapolis and a community-based clinic on the city’s east side.
