The collaboration is with Regional Opportunities Inc., which was formed to help identify skills and qualifications needed in southwest central Indiana.
ROI is being funded by part of the $42 million grant awarded to the region earlier this year from Lilly Endowment Inc. ROI will gather information on the needs of the region’s defense sector, and combine it with similar data collected from life sciences and manufacturing employers. It will use the information to help develop K-12 and post-secondary programming to prepare students for future jobs in the region.
NSWC Crane Director of Engagement Brian Blackwell says he is excited about the partnership, saying it gives an opportunity "for us to work together to better define and communicate our skillset needs in the future and collaborate on the development of programs to better equip the local work force to meet our needs."
The funding from Lilly Endowment is supporting initiatives in 11 counties. Other projects include an Applied Research Institute near the Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center and the potential development of a Rural Center at Indiana University.
