Construction to Begin on Mishawaka Mixed-Use Project

Subscribe NowOfficials from the city of Mishawaka and Indianapolis-based Flaherty & Collins Properties will Thursday break ground on a $45 million mixed-use development. The Mill at Ironworks Plaza will include more than 230 luxury, market-rate apartments and more than 13,000 square-feet of retail space.
The project has already secured its anchor retail tenant, the Stacked Pickle sports bar. The apartments will include studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom units. Developer Flaherty & Collins says it will also feature a second-floor amenity deck with a bar, lounge areas, grilling station and activity lawn, in addition to other amenities throughout the development, such as a maker’s space and demonstration kitchen.
"This project will be transformational to our historic downtown," said Mishawaka Mayor David Wood. "In our planning to redevelop the former Uniroyal properties, the City has remained committed to building a mixed use, architecturally significant and pedestrian friendly environment. This project which will cover two city blocks includes all of these elements."
The Indiana Economic Development Corp. in October approved more than $5 million in Regional Cities Initiative funding for the project. IEDC President Elaine Bedel says the project will "continue to enhance downtown Mishawaka and increase social connectivity in one of north central Indiana’s urban cores."
The 430,000-square-foot project is expected to be complete in summer 2019.
