Jischke Hall of Biomedical Engineering. The Innovation Wing will allow for the expansion of the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering’s programs, outreach and research capabilities.
Plans include expanding the number of core faculty to over 40, and undergraduates to over 400. “With a translational Innovation Wing to our building under construction, our goal is to grow our educational and research programs by roughly 50 percent over the next several years,” said George R. Wodicka, the Dane A. Miller Head and Professor of the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering. “This growth is necessary to keep pace with the need for the innovation and translation of medical technologies and industry demand for biomedical engineers.”
The Weldon School faculty and student body have doubled in size since Jischke Hall was dedicated in 2006. The 29,500 square foot expansion will include various research laboratories, including open concept wet research labs, along with offices and instructional spaces. Construction is scheduled to be complete by July 2019. A grand opening ceremony is tentatively set for Sept. 6, 2019.
