Construction is underway on Green Oaks of Valparaiso, an affordable assisted lifestyle community. Illinois-based Gardant Management Solutions says the development will provide more than 60 part- and full-time jobs with an annual payroll of more than $2.2 million.

Valparaiso city officials held a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of the project.

Chicago-based Evergreen Construction Co. is constructing the 98,000-square-foot development, which will consist of 120 apartment units and common area amenities. The community will feature a fitness center and theater.

The development, which will be operated by Gardant, is expected to open in April 2023.
