The facility was originally slated to close as the health system looked to reduce costs.
Reid Health said in July it was implementing a restructuring plan to streamline operations to help close a projected $43 million funding gap caused by rising costs and underpayments from insurance providers.
HealthWorks was slated to close at the end of July as part of that plan, but the health system said a week later that it had received interest from a community business owner to take over the facility.
Now, Reid has reached a deal with Connersville resident Brennan Joy, who will operate the center as EnJoy Fitness Club.
Jason Troutwine, vice president of Reid Health and president of the Reid Foundation, called the deal a win-win for everyone.
“With the financial pressures we’re experiencing due to outside factors, we weren’t in a position to continue operating HealthWorks. We’re grateful to Brennan for stepping up to take this on,” Troutwine said in a news release. “We know how much HealthWorks means to the community, and it’s important to us that this will be locally owned and operated.”
Per the terms of the agreement, Joy will lease space at the center’s current location at 3542 Western Avenue and acquire the center’s equipment. Joy said he plans to expand services to a 24/7 operation in early October and add a supplement store by early November that will be open to the public.
Current HealthWorks members, Reid said, will be moved over to the new EnJoy Fitness Club.
“Once the opportunity came up, it was obvious this was something we wanted to keep going. HealthWorks is a staple of the community,” Joy said. “We want people to enjoy being healthy and living healthy lives.”
EnJoy Fitness Club will continue to operate out of the current location for the next year before moving to a new site in late summer or early fall of 2024.
Reid Health Primary & Specialty Care – Connersville and Reid OB/GYN – Connersville will also continue to operate from the current facility.
