Holcomb Confirmed For Lt. Governor

Subscribe NowGovernor Mike Pence’s nomination to succeed Sue Ellspermann as lieutenant governor will be sworn in today. Eric Holcomb has been confirmed by the Indiana House and Senate and will take the oath of office this afternoon.
The House voted 91-3 to confirm Holcomb’s nomination. The Senate vote was unanimous. Holcomb will be the state’s 51st lieutenant governor, replacing Ellspermann, who resigned from office to pursue the job of president at Ivy Tech Community College.
Last month, Holcomb withdrew as a candidate for Senator Dan Coats’ (R-Ind.) soon-to-be-open U.S. Senate seat. Soon after, Pence announced Holcomb as his selection for lieutenant governor. Prior to his campaign, Holcomb was chair of the Indiana Republican Party.
In a statement Wednesday, Pence said "it is a special honor for me today to nominate Eric Holcomb as Indiana’s next lieutenant governor. Eric Holcomb is a man of great integrity, who brings a wealth of experience and knowledge about the state of Indiana to the Office of Lieutenant Governor, and I am grateful for his willingness to serve. As we build upon Indiana’s strong standing as a state that works, I look forward to working closely with our new lieutenant governor to improve the lives of Hoosiers and strengthen our growing Indiana economy."
The House and Senate are set to take roll call votes today on the nomination. Each chamber will vote on resolutions crafted by Senate President Pro Tempore David Long (R-16) and House Speaker Brian Bosma (R-88). If the resolutions succeed, a swearing-in will take place.
