Conference for Women Lands Big Names

Subscribe NowErin Brockovich, who inspired an Oscar-winning movie, and former Fox News host Gretchen Carlson will be keynote speakers during the annual Indiana Conference for Women on November 8. ICFW says both women are “true pioneers who have made a difference in the lives of others.”
ICFW believes their journeys, each with “extraordinarily challenging circumstances,” will inspire women to apply the same perseverance to their careers. In 1996, Brockovich spearheaded the largest direct action lawsuit of its kind, forcing utility giant Pacific Gas & Electric (PG & E) to pay out the biggest toxic tort injury settlement in U.S. history. Her story was profiled in the Oscar-winning movie "Erin Brockovich," starring Julia Roberts.
In Indiana, the Erin Brockovich Foundation is with working with two mothers in Johnson County who formed the group "If It Was Your Child" to draw attention to an increase in local pediatric cancer cases. The group says Johnson County’s rates are higher than the state and national average, with nearly 40 confirmed cases of childhood cancer since 2010.
In 2016, Carlson garnered national attention for suing then-Fox News Chief Executive Officer Roger Ailes for sexual harassment. She later appeared on the covers of Time and Good Housekeeping magazines for her efforts to promote a safe working environment for women. Carlson currently serves as chair of the Miss America organization and is an advocate for equality and empowerment for women.
