Primaria Health LLC will provide services including data analysis, medication management and behavioral health programs. Community Chief Executive Officer Bryan Mills says the current fee-for-service health care model is "not sustainable." He says the new joint venture will result in a value-based model of care for patients, which he believes will "improve their outcomes and drive down health care costs."
Doug Stratton will lead the new venture. He is the former chief executive officer of Principal Healthcare of Indiana and Cigna of Kansas and Missouri. Primaria Health will begin providing services for Community and independent providers in a 38-county area in central Indiana in October.
Community says the partnership will allow physicians more time to focus on patient care and engagement with colleagues. It says Primaria will also provide them with access to processes and technology designed to improve outcomes for patients with diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure and other conditions.
VillageMD Chief Executive Tim Barry says the approach will result in "a reduction in avoidable admissions and re-admissions." Stratton agrees, saying the targeted care will help patients achieve optimum health and avoid unnecessary services.
