24-year IMPD veteran Craig McCartt has been appointed commander of the east district. He was promoted to lieutenant in 2014 and has been unit supervisor of the robbery/aggravated assault unit, homicide unit supervisor, and most recently as major of the criminal investigation division.
“Improving the safety of Indianapolis requires a professional and thorough police department working alongside the community at every level – from beat officers to the Chief of Police,” said Chief Roach. “Leveraging the experience these leaders bring to their new positions will help us work better with the community to identify and hold accountable those who perpetrate violence.”
Former East District Commander Roger Spurgeon returns to the homicide unit as captain.
