A public open house for the cancer center is set for March 24 at 5:30. Work began two years ago and includes 6,600 more square-feet at the existing facility. The new space has a larger waiting area, chemotherapy treatment bays, expanded pharmacy and two additional private patient rooms. Two new radiation oncologists will join the staff, which is being led by Director of Oncology Joni Candler. Chandler took on the role earlier this year.
A new emergency department and larger trauma center are also part of Columbus Regional Health’s growth in Bartholomew County. Emergency department construction started about a year ago and is being performed by Pepper Construction Co. of Indiana.
The expansion will help serve what officials estimate to be twice the number of patients than the original facility was designed to handle.
