The Cole Porter Inn, the childhood home of composer and songwriter Cole Porter, is looking to raise a minimum of $15,000 by May 6.
John Kirk, owner and operator of the Cole Porter Inn, says some of the main work that needs to be done includes painting the exterior of the building, planting shrubs in the patio area to give guests more privacy, sealing concrete, and installing showers in the suites.
If enough money is raised, the inn would add an event called Bistro at the Birthplace, a once-per-week event where guests can enjoy meals from local chefs. The inn also has plans to add a taproom featuring beer from Kirk Brothers Brewery.
"Cole Porter’s significance has been recognized in some truly remarkable ways," Kirk said on the Kickstarter page. "As citizens of Peru, Indiana, we don’t take lightly that someone as revered as Cole came from our humble town. In supporting the (repairs) you allow us to create another place for Cole to touch lives and inspire artists from all varieties and backgrounds."
As of 6:00 p.m. Friday, the campaign had raised nearly $3,000. You can find more information on the campaign by clicking here.
