In a notice to the state, the company says the surface mine operations at Liberty Mine in Boonville will shut down this spring, affecting more than 80 employees.
White Stallion says all regular employees will be offered the opportunity to transfer to one of the company’s other mining sites. The closure is expected to be permanent and take place on April 5, though the company says the date may change "depending on business circumstances."
The company did not provide a specific reason for the closure. The affected employees are not represented by a union and do not have bumping rights.
