Christel House Indianapolis announced Emily Masengale will serve as CEO of the network’s four charter schools in the city.
She replaces Sarah Weimer, who has been promoted to chief of staff at Christel House International, working with former Indianapolis Mayor and Christel House International CEO Bart Peterson to oversee global schools in India, Jamaica, Mexico and South Africa.
Masengale was most recently an assistant executive director with Christel House Indianapolis and also served as the founding principal of Christel House DORS, an adult high school with locations in Ivy Tech Community College’s downtown Indianapolis campus, as well as other Christel House schools and in the Fay Biccard Glick Neighborhood Center this August.
Masengale is an Indianapolis native and began teaching in St. Louis, where she was nominated St. Louis Public Schools’ Teacher of the Year and advanced to the top five of Missouri’s Teacher of the Year.
She moved back to Indiana where she designed and served as the leader of Christel House DORS from 2012 to 2020. While working with DORS, Masengale was also a coach and instructor for Columbia University’s Summer Principals Academy Internship before moving into her assistant executive director role.
The new CEO begins her role immediately and will oversee Christel House Indianapolis’ Christel House DORS and Christel House Watanabe Manual High School, as well as two K-8 schools, Christel House Academy South and Christel House Academy West.
“I am honored to be named as the CEO of Christel House Indianapolis,” Masengale said in a news release. “I am looking forward to my continued work with this incredible network. We have amazing leaders, educators, students and families that remain committed to serving. With teamwork and a commitment to excellence, I look forward to all we will accomplish.”
Weimer has spent 13 years with Christel House in several leadership positions, Peterson said in a news release. As CEO of the Indianapolis schools, Weimer helped oversee pandemic response and renovations at the charter’s Christel House Watanabe Manual High School.
She started her career with Indianapolis Public Schools and taught in Decatur Township Schools before joining Christel House in 2011.
